Due to her adventurous and daring nature, Kahlea decided on her 35th birthday to go climbing in the West Loop of Chicago at Brooklyn Boulders through an Airbnb Experience in April of 2018. After that, the rest was history. She fell in love. After a couple of weeks, she decided to take the Intro to Climbing class where she learned the basics of bouldering and then took Learn the Ropes to get certified for top rope. After climbing for about a year and seeing others leading at the gym, Kahlea decided to take her climbing to the next step and got certified to lead climb. After working as an ESL Senior Coach for nine years, she quit her job and started working with EPIC Climbing for the past year.
Kahlea just started doing competitions this year and has a background in doing music competitions. “In regard to competitions, I love the rush that they give me as it helps me push myself to do my best.”
“I just want to enjoy climbing and travel the world doing it by focusing more on outdoor climbing and sport climbing. I am pursuing my goal of getting my certification in single and multi pitch climbing, and I hope that my involvement at the gym and in climbing will help the sport grow among my friends, family and my community because it’s an extremely positive and healthy sport that more people of all walks of life should enjoy.”
Kahlea is the customer service manager at EPIC Climbing and Fitness and is highly involved in SheSends and other community work in Indianapolis. “I love having the opportunity to work with people and kids as I see people as an art and wonderfully made. To be honest with you, learning about people is what I live for, and the rock-climbing community gives me that opportunity. I want my legacy to be centered around helping others and bringing joy to others.”
